Gîte in Dordogne Périgord Noir " La Maison du Passeur " (The Passenger's House)
Located at the entrance to the campsite and facing the Dordogne river, we offer you the opportunity to rent the gite "La Maison du Passeur" . One of our two Périgourdine stone houses, it sleeps 2/4 people. For your comfort, we've installed a semi-covered terrace in 2019. So you can enjoy your meals outside in all kinds of weather, but also relax on the deckchairs in the shade facing the river. This camping gîte in Dordogne Périgord noir is just waiting for you!
A little history of the Périgord Noir in the Dordogne
In the past, people crossed the Dordogne at Garrit by ferry, long before the metal bridge was built. The ferry was operated by a ferryman who, depending on his mood, accepted passengers, whether men or animals, more or less willingly. The ferryman could keep an eye on his boat, which was securely moored to the calle, in the ferryman's house, which has now been converted into a guesthouse. The calle is a kind of stone quay that can still be seen on the banks of the Dordogne River.
